“What Do You Believe?” is a sculptural installation inspired by the prophecies of The Scottish Play. In this space I invite you to consider your own relationship to belief, superstition, prophecy, and intuition. 

Me? I believe in a lot of things. I believe in the power of storytelling. I believe that a story can change the way we understand a place, a person, or even ourselves. 

So step into this story….

At its center stands a paper-mâché tree constructed and growing entirely from pages of the Macbeth script. As the prophecies written in the script begin to come true, the tree contorts and transforms, its paper branches becoming increasingly like the branches of a real tree. A chandelier illuminates the tree, representing the three witches Macbeth will meet. The chandelier is a light source, revealing the world below and leaving it to the viewer to decide what they choose to see. At the very top of this piece, a cauldron overflows with the weight of all of these prophecies. Crowns, bones, weapons, tableware, and fabric spill from its edges, heavy with expectation. 

As an artist, I use The Scottish Play as a lens through which to explore power, women as sources of light throughout history, the mending of relationships, and the ways power can create damage that cannot always be repaired.
